Taray Viewpoint
Next, we will continue to the Taray Viewpoint, known as the gateway to the Sacred Valley. This spot offers breathtaking views of the valley floor and the Urubamba River, framed by the majestic Andes. Your guide will provide an overview of the sites you'll be visiting throughout the day.
Pisac Archaeological Site
We will arrive at the Pisac Archaeological Site, where you will embark on a one-hour guided exploration of this impressive Inca citadel. Your guide will lead you through the agricultural terraces, ceremonial areas, and burial sites, explaining the strategic and spiritual importance of Pisac in Inca times.
Pisac Town and Market
After visiting the ruins, we will descend to Pisac Town, where you’ll have time to explore the local market. Here, you can browse for traditional textiles, pottery, and other handmade crafts while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this Andean village.
Lunch in Urubamba
We will then drive to Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, where you will enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a variety of local dishes prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from the region.
Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site
After lunch, we’ll continue to the remarkable Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site, an impressive Inca fortress and ceremonial center. Your guide will provide a one-hour tour of the site, explaining its role in both military defense and religious ceremonies. You’ll also have time to explore the narrow streets of the nearby town, which still follows its original Inca layout.
Chinchero Town and Textile Workshop
Our next destination is Chinchero, a town renowned for its traditional Andean culture and artisanal textiles. Here, you will visit a local textile workshop, where artisans will demonstrate their ancient weaving techniques, using natural dyes to create beautiful textiles. This is a perfect opportunity to purchase unique handmade souvenirs.
Moray Archaeological Site
We will then drive to Moray, a fascinating Inca site believed to be an agricultural laboratory. You’ll explore the concentric circular terraces, which were used by the Incas to experiment with different microclimates to grow various crops.
Maras Salt Mines (Salineras de Maras)
Our final stop will be the Maras Salt Mines, where you’ll witness thousands of salt ponds used by local families to harvest salt in the traditional way. The view of these terraced salt pools cascading down the mountainside is truly surreal, and your guide will explain the ancient techniques still in use today.
Return to Cusco
